GRANDCHESTER RAILWAY STATION
On the Ipswich-Toowoomda railway line, at the foot of the Little Liverpool Range, and 44 miles distant from Brisbane, is the little township of Grandchester. Between it and Laidley runs the Little Liverpool Range. Though only about four miles distant from Laidley, travellers by road are compelled to make a journey of 18 miles via Hatton Vale, to reach the latter town from Grandchester, owing to the bad state of the road across the Little Liverpool Range. This road is the main highway from Brisbane to Toowoomba, and an effort is now being made by the Rosewood and Laidley shire councils to secure a grant from the Government for the purpose of putting the road in repair.
The country around Grandchester consists of creek flats undulating ridges and hills, and is utilised primarily for dairying purposes. About five miles south of the township in the direction of Hidden Vale are some splendid lucerne flats, and it is from this direction that most of the cream forwarded from the railway station comes. Grandchester railway station preseats a pretty appearance when its large plane trees are in leaf. Our photograph shows them devoid of foliage, but at one season of the year they are so thickly leafed that the sun’s rays are unable to penetrate them.
