Rosewood Shire Council. A. Kathage, of the Westfalen Colliery, offered use of material from his mine if the council would put the road to the railway station in order. Failing this, he asked permission to dump material on the road in its worst places. The Chairman pointed out that mine material would be unsuitable for repairs, but observed that there was a quarry with suitable stone near the mine. Cr. Schumann thought that council should help the writer by loosening material in the quarry if he would use it. “It is the least we can do,” he said. It was decided to make the material available and to pay the royalty on it.”

He added that his offer had been made as long ago as three yearsn. After discussion, it was moved by Cr. Berlin and seconded by Cr. 7 MINERS DISMISSED.
Dispute at Westfalen Colliery. Seven miners employed by the Westfalen Colliery near Mt. Marrow, have been dismissed because, in the opinion of the management, they were not filling sufficient skips of coal. It is understood that the men in the particular section affected were asked to fill eight skips each, but they contended that it was impossible for them to manage more than seven each. As their output remained at seven skips, the manager formally dismissed the men.
The matter was brought before State officials of the Queensland Colliery Employees’ Union, and the District Secretary (Mr. A. E. Phillips) went up to Westfalen this week and met members of the branch. Details of the men’s grievance were discussed fully and finally it was decided to ask the company to meet representatives of the union in conference next Wednesday. The remainder of the men, numbering about 18, decided to continue work until the result of the conference is known. The complaint also will be discussed by the Committee of Management of the Q.C.E.U. on Monday night.
