NO MONEY FOR COAL ROADS
At a meeting of the Moreton Shire Council yesterday the Queensland Coal Board forwarded reports concerning access roads to the United No. 7 and Neath collieries. It was suggested that three concrete pipes be placed in a bad gully on the road between the United No. 7 mine and the main Lowood-road. The Secretary of the Neath colliery had drawn attention to the condition of the Walloon-road from Rosewood past the Normanton colliery to the Neath turn-off. The Coal Board said it would appreciate it if the council would give urgent consideration to the two matters with a view to having some improvement effected.The The Neath Colliery said that to date it had spent £278 on the road, and it was prepared to contribute a further £200 towards the cost of forming a road. The Main Roads Commission, in a report to the Coal Board, said the cost of construction to mining access road standard would be about £1800. The commission would be prepared to recommend gazettal of the road as a mining access road and construct the road, provided the council would accept 20 per cent repayment charges.

TWO MINES IDLE
Two mines, one on the Ipswich field, and one at Rosewood, were idle yesterday following disputes. Both are expected to resume production this morning. Twenty-one miners at the Neath Colliery, Rosewood will resume work under conditions prevailing prior to the dispute. The union has tentatively arranged a conference at the mine at 8 a.m. on Thursday, to discuss the six questions in dispute with the management. Whitwood No. 2 mine at Dinmore was idle following a dispute on labour employed on the pit head. Mr. Millar said there was a possibility that the dispute would be settled, and that the 21 miners employed at the pit would resume work this morning.
