William Dölling
Born in the Rosewood district in 1874, he spent the greater part of his life in it. He was a pupil of the Tallegalla State School, his parents having conducted a hotel at Tallegalla in the early days, on the property owned by Michael Goos. After his marriage to Mary Nicholl, which took place at Maryborough in 1896, he and Mary came to Rosewood where they established a series of boarding houses which were run by Mary. For a long period he was employed as a grocer by Mr J. L. Frederich, Messrs. Ruhno and Maher, and Mr. W. Ruhno, at Rosewood, and for some a short time by Messrs. Barry and Roberts, Brisbane. After conducting business on his own account at Rosewood, he lived privately at his home, “Argyle House,” Rosewood until his death in 1942.
