Robert Fraser MILLER – Carter

Robert Fraser Miller, aka “Bob,” was born was in 1885 at Herberton and was the son of Robert Gibson Miller and Isabella Porteous. The family moved to Aramac where his father was an accountant at the Queensland National Bank, which was also their residence. His mother died at the bank in 1892 aged 34 years. 

Robert worked as a drover until he moved to Ipswich. He was working as a labourer when he married Elsie Annan Wilson at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in 1914. They lived in Gray Street, Ipswich before moving to Coleville about 1920. Robert became a Carter and Cream Carrier.

Around 1930 they moved to Aramac where Robert’s father and step mother still resided. Robert worked as a mailman, then took a position as overseer at Wilton Station until 1946 when they went to live in Toowoomba and opened a store.

Elsie had not been in good health and the death of her only son, Beresford Birdwood Miller, in the African campaign in Syria in 1941, caused a deterioration in her constitution. She died in 1949.

Robert came back to Coleyville before going to live at Hughenden about 1961 to be near his daughter Valetta (Mrs. James Macfarlane Whyte). He died in Ipswich in 1964 and is interred in an unmarked grave in the Presbyterian New section of the Ipswich General Cemetery.
